Cor Scorpii - Attergangar
Reviewed by Joni Juutilainen May 2006.
One of the most underrated bands in the Norwegian metal scene,
Windir, got its tragic end a couple of years ago when the band's
heart and mastermind Valfar died. From the ashes of Windir rose a
band called Vreid, whose debut album "Kraft" was a very excellent
package of rocking black metal with some nice folkish melodies. Cor
Scorpii is the second sapling growing from Windir's ashes.
Cor Scorpii's music is very close to what Windir used to be. Just
put together black metal and folkish, extremely catchy guitar
melodies and you'll know what this band is all about. "Arrergangar"
is a demo but the sounds and playing are both really professional
and the best show of the band's skills is a fast song called
"Transcendental Journey" which actually sounds quite similar to some
Limbonic Art material. In a good sense, of course.
If you are into Windir's material, Cor Scorpii is a right choice for
you. This band seems to be a straight continuation to Valfar's
creativity and the best thing here is that the wild spirit of Windir
lives in Cor Scorpii. Good stuff.
7/10
